Flexible pet food production for changing market demands
Vobra Special Petfoods expanded its production facilities in Veghel, the Netherlands, with a new pet food production line designed for greater flexibility, capacity and product variety. Ottevanger delivered the new production tower as main contractor and also modified parts of the existing facility.
The new installation gave Vobra greater control over kibble size, shape and moisture content. It also expanded the range of raw materials that could be processed, including fresh ingredients such as carrot and tomato as well as potatoes and rice.
This flexibility allows Vobra to manufacture a wide variety of recipes, including vegan and gluten-free pet food as well as products with higher meat and fish content. The installation supports more than 500 recipes, enabling Vobra to serve both its own brands and private-label customers.
The new facility was designed with future expansion in mind, including space for an additional production line. The installation has a production capacity of 10 tonnes per hour and increased Vobra’s overall production capacity to approximately 50,000 tonnes per year. Raw material handling and dosing formed an important part of the project. The facility includes 36 raw material silos, an extensive tank park and 84 dosing points, providing the flexibility required to handle a broad range of recipes and ingredients.
As main contractor, Ottevanger was responsible for the engineering and implementation of the new production tower as well as modifications to the existing facility. The project scope included the complete steam and liquid installation alongside the main processing equipment. TSC supplied a silo block containing 24 small cells for raw material storage. Together, the systems created an integrated pet food production facility designed for efficient operation, recipe flexibility and future expansion.
