From grain to feed

Steam Dosing Unit

The Ottevanger Steam Dosing Unit supplies dry, high quality steam for conditioners, presses, expanders, and compactors. A pressure reducing unit and drainage vessel create superheated steam that heats product with minimal condensation, improving conditioning and often increasing press capacity by up to 20%. Compact, fully assembled systems are available from 150 to 2,500 kg/h.

  • Superheated, dry steam via steam-flash in drainage vessel
  • High steam temperature up to approx. 140 °C
  • Higher product temperature with minimal fouling from condensation

Reliable pellet press start-up without disruption

Getting a high-quality product from your conditioning process starts with getting high-quality steam into it. Our steam dosing units (designed by IVS) can reach temperatures of up to 150 degrees C at a pressure of 2.2 bar – which is virtually unheard of in the industry.

The result is a smooth and seamless process that mitigates all kinds of challenges, including: difficulty starting up the press in the morning; blockage of the pellet press during start-up phase; meal too cold and pellets too wet; water entering the conditioner during standstill; and unexpected power spikes in the pellet press during production. It’s all supported by years of expertise, including support with thepositioning and installation of the unit for optimal results via a compact construction that works in harmony with the rest of the line.

Performance & Applications

Overview

Key benefits

Discover the key benefits of the Steam Dosing Unit

  • Increased press capacity; ~20% gain is not uncommon

Your questions answered

FAQ

It generates dry, superheated steam at the required pressure/temperature for conditioning on presses, conditioners, expanders and compactors.

After pressure reduction, steam flashes in a volume-increasing drainage vessel, producing superheated, dry steam with minimal condensation.

Dry steam raises product temperature and improves conditioning; an increase in press capacity of about 20% is no exception.

Steam temperature can reach approximately 140 °C, depending on settings.

A complete, instrumented package including reducing unit, drainage and condensate vessels, valves, steam traps, control valve with 4–20 mA control/feedback, gauges and insulated aluminium-clad finish.
