Advanced modular feed factory in Honduras
NUPETSA (Nutrición Pecuaria Tecnológica, S.A. de C.V.) invested in a new modular feed mill near San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Ottevanger supplied the 30 t/h plant as a complete solution for efficient and flexible compound feed production, with a strong focus on automation, hygiene and product quality. The plant is based on Ottevanger’s Containerised Feed Mill C30-10-10 configuration.
The modular plant incorporates the complete production process, from raw material intake through dosing, grinding and mixing to pelleting and finished product handling. Two compact pelleting lines provide production flexibility, while automated equipment throughout the process supports consistent feed quality and efficient operation.
Advanced automation plays a central role in the plant. Ottevanger supplied an integrated control solution covering the process from intake to the filling of bulk trucks and bags. Barcode scanners, touch panels, sensors and radar technology support the automated operation, while an integrated track & trace system manages the flow and administration of raw materials and finished products. Hygiene was another important consideration in the plant design. Dust filtration at intake points and conveyors helps maintain a clean production environment. One of the pelleting lines also incorporates thermal conditioning technology designed to reduce bacteria such as salmonella and support the production of hygienic feed.
Ottevanger’s scope extended beyond the process equipment. The project also included the steam boiler, electrical installation and control systems, including switchgear, automation and transformers. To maintain production during interruptions to the local electricity supply, the installation was designed to operate with two large backup generators with automatic switching. Ottevanger also provided the electrical connection to these generators.
The containerised design allowed Ottevanger to pre-assemble large sections of the feed mill in steel frames before shipment to Honduras. On site, the modules could then be positioned and connected according to the plant layout. This approach reduces installation time on site and limits the amount of conventional building work required. The compact, self-supporting structure also simplifies transport and provides NUPETSA with a flexible plant configuration that can support future production requirements.
